Apricot is a web app, built to run in a browser like Chrome or Firefox. The big advantage of this is that Apricot can run on any device and browser, with a single code base. The downside, though, is that you have to remember to open Apricot.

Guess what? Apricot can also be installed to your Android phone’s home screen, just like a native app. Now you don’t need to remember about Apricot; when it’s time to find a TV show to watch or a podcast to listen to, or just to check the news in the morning over coffee…Apricot is right there on your home screen.

How to install Apricot

Here are the steps to install Apricot on Android with Chrome. Check out the video above for a visual demo of me going through the steps on my own phone.

  1. Open Chrome

  2. Navigate to Apricot, either directly or via the landing page.

  3. Click Chrome’s triple dot icon in the top right (I called this the “settings” menu in the video, which isn’t quite right, but I don’t know what else to call it).

  4. About three quarters of the way down you’ll see an option to Install App. Press that.

  5. In the window that pops up press Install to confirm your choice.

  6. Wait a few seconds until the system confirms installation is complete.

  7. Close the browser. The Apricot icon will appear on the home screen. Move it to wherever you like, just like any other app. Press to open Apricot. Voilà!

A couple notes

  • You don’t need to be logged in to install Apricot to the home screen.

  • Sometimes a pop-up will appear when you first open Apricot in Chrome that asks if you want to install it. This is in fact the easiest way to do it, but sometimes it doesn’t appear. If it doesn’t, that’s ok, just follow the video or instructions above.

  • Every browser is different; let me know how installation goes for you, especially if you have trouble. Send feedback to or fill out the feedback form.
